When one typically thinks about what to look for in pool chemicals, the general thought usually centers around water quality and effective disinfectants.
But air quality is an often overlooked—and crucial—factor as well, especially for indoor pools.
In fact, did you know that on average, swimmers have the worst lungs compared to other athletes? Most would assume that swimmers’ lungs are the strongest, but byproducts, chloramines and various elements gassing off the pool all have adverse effects.
So when it comes to air quality in commercial indoor pools, inexpensive chlorine and pH balance certainly isn’t the most conducive to what we breathe.
A lot of people walk into indoor pools and think they smell chlorine, but what they’re smelling is actually chloramines, a byproduct from human sweat and other human byproducts mixing with chlorine that gases off. This means there’s too many dissolved solids in the water.
Methods like bleach, gas and muriatic acid are certainly options when looking to chlorinate your pool, but for the cleanest and healthiest environment possible, solid tablets—like the Accu-Tab® Chlorination System and Acid-Rite® pH Adjustment System—are the simplest, safest and most effective solution.
Avoid Indoor Air-rors
While solid form, tablet-based chlorination solutions have helped to revolutionize the health and air quality for swimmers, it’s also the operators in the pump room who are seeing the benefits.
We’ve all heard the pump room horror stories where an inexperienced operator mistakenly spills muriatic acid or pours it in conjunction with another chemical they weren’t supposed to, leading to immediate health hazards.
With Accu-Tab and Acid-Rite, operators are simply able to take tablets right out of easy-to-carry 60-pound buckets, as opposed to fifty-gallon drums. And if local health departments require chlorine to be stored in a separate room, it’s easier to get tablets over to the chlorinator. And this comes without the risk of corrosion if the bucket spills, something very common with liquid chlorination.
Maybe most important of all, there is no dual containment required with solid chemicals, eliminating the risk management concerns for operators that come along with liquids, bleach and gases.
Here to Help
